Planetarium

Here, you'll find the entire database of World(/Moon) Fact Sheets, which are meant to describe each inhabitable world, moon, or land that has been discovered so far. The definition of the World Designation is listed beneath the table of worlds and also explained on each Fact Sheet itself. In the table, the worlds and moons are grouped just as they are in the Bestiary, so you shouldn't have too much trouble navigating to the place you seek.

World Designations

World Designation is part of each world's Fact Sheet. It is a reasonably simple code that will indicate to aliens what this world is like and whether or not to avoid it. It has three parts: inhabitants, description keywords, and civilization level.

Inhabitants are either non-sentient or sentient, naturally, so the first part of the three-section code will include one of the following: MSI (multi-sentient inhabited; many sentients native to the world), USI (uni-sentient inhabited; only one sentient native species), NSI (non-sentient inhabited), MSU (multi-sentient used; many races visit or trade here), USU (uni-sentient used), MSC (multi-sentient colonized), USC (uni-sentient colonized). Description keywords vary in interpretation, but more than one can be used if the world requires such labels. Keywords include but are not limited to: pastoral, hostile, survivable, deadly, deteriorating, unstable, off-limits (to aliens), extreme (in temperature).

The final part of the designation code describes the planet's level of technology and, in some cases, the level of its species' off-world technology if it is a certain race's homeworld. Civilization level is usually one or two of the following codes: NT (no technology), PT (primitive technology; basic metal-working or less), ATF (advanced technology off-world), ATN (advanced technology on-world), SAT (some advanced technology; have discovered electricity but not space flight), ATFN (advanced technology on- and off-world), CSF (capable of space flight).

While the world designation may seem confusing, in fact it is very helpful to those seeking to know the essential facts about a planet with little research. And don't worry, the designation code will always be followed by a brief recap of what the letters stand for in each World Fact Sheet.
